TECH NEWS – It’s unbelievable, but it’s true: nearly eight years after the introduction of a system that has become commonplace elsewhere, a convenience feature is finally available on a South Korean handset.
Google introduced Seamless Update for Android back in 2016 (!). With this, updating works in a different way than before: when an update came in, you always had to restart your smartphone, but with this new feature, you don’t have to do that anymore. Our phone downloads and installs the update in the background, and the secondary system partition on our device was a big help. The strange thing is that Samsung hasn’t introduced this solution yet, but it will work in the Samsung Galaxy A55, and it will be the first phone from the South Koreans that doesn’t require us to reboot everything during updates.
With the arrival of the Seamless Update, users will get two panels. One will be about how to download and install the update, and the other will be about authentication. This will make the update process much simpler, clearer, and ultimately more convenient. On the one hand, the secondary partition will have more security, because if something goes wrong during the installation, your device will be able to revert to the state it was in before the installation, and although this means you will need more internal storage space, 128 gigabytes is already a small amount in devices these days, so it might not be so noticeable. (Of course, this could still be a problem if you often shoot high-resolution videos and pictures, such as 4K).
When the Samsung Galaxy A55 was released, the feature was not yet available, but only came with the latest Seamless update, so seeing this case, perhaps other Samsung phones will get the feature in the future. It stands to reason that the Galaxy S24 series could also benefit from the no-reboot update, but we can’t look inside the South Korean company’s head, so we have no idea when the rest of the handsets will get Google’s feature.
