Wolf & Wood and RapidEyeMovers will be adapting the PlayStation VR2 version to play without a VR headset, creating a new way to play C-Smash VRS: New Dimension.

According to Wolf & Wood founder Ryan Bousfield, the PlayStation 5 port is exciting because the game is all about how everything feels. They already have a lot of game modes and features, so now the developers are focusing on “being present” in virtual reality, but this time they’re doing it through the analog sticks of the controller. And Jorg Tittel, director of RapidEyeMovers, wrote in the press release that he fell in love with Cosmic Smash back in 2001 and was happy to bring it to VR with SEGA’s blessing, but the PlayStation 5 version of C-Smash VRS brings it full circle as it’s essentially a new game with more surprises to drop as we get closer to launch.

C-Smash VRS, the critically acclaimed reimagining of SEGA’s arcade and console classic Cosmic Smash, will break out of virtual reality and bring a whole new experience to all PlayStation 5 owners. Playable in the third person in the spirit of the SEGA icon, C-Smash VRS: New Dimension will allow existing players of the highly acclaimed PlayStation VR2 game to play on PlayStation 5 thanks to a major free update. Current PlayStation 5 owners can pre-order the game today – and own the PlayStation VR2 game in the meantime. Innovative, as-yet-unannounced features will be included for both virtual reality and non-virtual reality players. Available now on PlayStation VR2 and on Meta Quest 2 / 3 / Pro and Pico 4 headsets from April 4, 2024, C-Smash VRS combines the best of racquet sports and block-breaking, with over 140 stylish levels, iconic graphics and hypnotic original music.

Players will move, dash and duck, performing intense shots, leaps and power smashes in a race against time, either solo or with a friend. With a variety of modes to choose from, players can travel to the edge of space and time in single-player or make a cosmic connection with a friend for versus and co-op fun. The game’s cross-platform leaderboards create fun challenges for the game’s growing global community of players.

C-Smash VRS New Dimension includes several modes to enhance solo and multiplayer play, including Head-to-Head, Firewall, Quickshot, Zen, Training, and an unforgiving AI BOT. Infinity challenges players to dodge and smash oncoming hazards. A thrilling mode that takes the work out of training. In Co-Op, Infinity puts you and a friend side by side to try and get the highest score. An innovative emote system allows players to communicate online using their clubs as wordless projectors. Leaderboards, player stats, a music player, stage selection menus with over 140 levels, multi-ball, portals and more add endless replay value. Powered by music, C-Smash VRS features original tracks by DJ Ken Ishii (Rez Infinite), synth master Danalogue (The Comet is Coming) and UK music legends Unkle, adding a hypnotic pulse to the game’s striking environments.
