Lilith Walther, who was behind the PS1 remake of Bloodborne, started another project with FromSoftware and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s IP, but after being squeezed by Sony’s lawyers, she “legalized” the project instead.
The project was originally called Bloodborne Kart, but after receiving a letter from Sony, Walther began to customize the racer, but this meant that she had to re-customize the characters, which negatively impacted the release date. Originally scheduled for release sometime in January, it took time to remove all traces of branding, so the racer didn’t reach the public in the first month of the year.
However, the project remains free and will soon be available not only on Steam, but also for download on Itch.io. Interestingly, although it will be free, the content could very well be paid for, as Nightmare Kart will have 20 (+1) racers, 16 tracks and even a story mode. There will also be a Vs. Battle mode, so you can even race against each other, and as if that wasn’t enough, there will also be boss battles. All this comes with a retro PS1 look.
But who is the additional competitor? Lilith Walther has placed her own Fursona character, Bunlith, in the Nightmare Kart, but he can only be unlocked by a cheat. This cannot be seen as selfish, because if someone really puts that much work into a project and then gives it away for free, they absolutely deserve that much for their work. They also replaced the parody of the FromSoftware (Fansoftware) logo with a temporary texture until they figure out how to arrange the logos. Gianni Matragrano, who voiced the name of the game, also re-recorded the text, so there will be no complaints about that either.
Bloodborne Kart’s new, and hopefully final, release date is still a little ways off, as it’s scheduled to launch on Steam and Itch.io on May 31st.
