If we’re already hearing that there will be an Xbox Showcase in June (we’ve already written about when to expect it, although Microsoft hasn’t officially mentioned the show yet…), it could be timed to coincide with an announcement that could boost subscriber numbers for the Redmond-based tech giant.
The Xbox Game Pass subscriber base isn’t growing at a remarkable rate, but Microsoft is starting to work on that. As a result, Diablo IV will be the first Activision Blizzard game added to the service on March 28. The big launch could be in June, and Insider Gaming has written about it in more detail. According to Tom Henderson, Xbox is looking to add older games to the service’s roster, and that it won’t just be announcing the new Call of Duty during the show (it’s rumored to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War).
We shouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft announces during the Xbox E3 replacement show (because there won’t be an E3 this year…) that it will put the entire Call of Duty line-up on Xbox Game Pass. As a reminder, these are the games that could show up: Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023), Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: WWII, and Call of Duty: Vanguard. For example, you could skip Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (Call of Duty, but for PS2 and Xbox), and Call of Duty 3 didn’t come out on PC, so you can’t put everything on Game Pass everywhere.
We’ll see what Microsoft does, but it really wouldn’t be surprising to see this announcement.
