Sonic’s Co-Creator Is Back On Twitter… And He’s Criticizing An Ex-Colleague!

It was only a matter of time before Yuji Naka returned to the Elon Musk-owned social networking platform, but we didn’t expect him to show up on Twitter like this, as it seemed unusually blunt, even for him.

Naka has been silent on Twitter for sixteen months, having last posted there in November 2022. That was when he was arrested. He was working on Balan Wonderworld at Square Enix and was handcuffed for insider trading. He knew that a Japanese studio, Aiming, was working on a Dragon Quest mobile game, Dragon Quest Tact. Then, in December 2022, he was arrested again, again for insider trading, only this time for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier (another Japanese studio, ATeam Entertainment, was working on this mobile game). In both cases, he traded shares to make a profit, which is a criminal offense because of his inside information…

Last year, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, suspended for four years, and had to pay a total fine of about $1.2 million for his guilty plea. You would think that he would keep his mouth shut for two years to avoid committing any crimes, but Naka could care less. He took to Twitter to bash a former colleague.

Naka criticized Yu Miyake. He recently resigned as producer of Dragon Quest. He had hoped that he would leave because Naka said that he was a person who lied in court. He has never met him, but he thinks the president of Square Enix might be a good person. Miyake was a member of the board and joined Enix in 1992. He was a longtime supervisor of the Dragon Quest franchise and will be in charge of Square Enix’s mobile games after his reassignment, according to Bloomberg’s sources.

It takes a bit of a face, though, for Naka to speak publicly about his former employer despite a suspended prison sentence.
