The Japanese publisher should not only be considered for Resident Evil, Street Fighter or Monster Hunter IPs, because if Capcom only focused on those, it would go the same way as Ubisoft (only they are more into Far Cry, The Crew and Assassin’s Creed).
The Descendants is a game we’ve never heard of before. The name came up in the resume of an actress, Bekka Prewitt. We’ve heard her in a couple of games. Most recently she voiced the character Bela Dimitrescu in Resident Evil: Village and one of the dolls in Donna Beneviento’s house. So she already has a connection to Capcom and survival horror, having previously voiced one of the unnamed female characters in The Evil Within 2 for Tango Gameworks. In The Descendants, Prewitt will play a supporting role.
To be a little sarcastic about the name of the game, we’d turn the name The Descendants inside out. If you took just the “descend” part of the word, it would mean something different. Capcom had a Souls clone project in development for PlayStation 4 that was never released. It was called Deep Down. You could say that this could be a reimagining of Deep Down (since you have to go down to be deep down), but of course that’s just a joke.
However, let’s not forget that Capcom has another indefinitely delayed project that was announced several years ago, and the chances of it ever coming out are getting slimmer and slimmer. Last June, the Japanese company announced that Pragmata had been postponed. It was also a brand new IP. If you don’t count Exoprimal (a dinosaur killer), basically all new IPs are now under Capcom’s wing.
And because of that, we don’t have much confidence that The Descendants will be released anytime soon. Maybe the game will be announced around June. Or maybe not.
