Will There be a Graphics Card Shortage Again?!

TECH NEWS – Getting a new graphics card is no longer a problem (until 2022 it was a pretty big deal), but history is starting to repeat itself.

It has emerged on a Chinese forum, Board Channels, that Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards with Ada Lovelace architecture are quite a big hit, but especially the RTX 4060 Ti is selling like hotcakes. Due to supply chain constraints, you should be prepared for a price increase of around 10%. The RTX 4060 Ti is a good entry-level card for gamers, and many in China are choosing it, which is why there is suddenly so much interest in Nvidia’s product.

However, supply has become significantly tighter and with fewer cards available, prices will rise, so expect price hikes in many markets (including China). This is why MSI and Asus have started to slowly raise the price of their cards to make a lot of money on demand. In Europe and North America, where prices tend to be lower, there are unlikely to be significant price increases, although the recommended retail price may vary from country to country. In China, US sanctions are causing a shortage of supply. (Or are they getting around the ban on cards designed for artificial intelligence?)

But you never know how the situation in Asia will affect the West. Maybe now is not the time to choose Nvidia cards. It might be worth waiting until the end of the year, because by then some of the high-end models of the next architecture GeForce RTX 5000 series based on Blackwell could be in stores. This is why it usually happens that older products are made cheaper in order to run out of stock.

Of course, this time it’s not AMD. Maybe this shows that AMD (and even Intel) are significantly behind in market share and prefer to go with Nvidia cards. They just need to somehow reduce the power consumption of their GPUs (which has been quite high for the last 2-3 generations).
