The action RPG is so popular on Valve’s digital platform that it has become the most wishlisted game, but Black Myth: Wukong achieved this with a tricky twist.
That twist happened on the sixth of May. Supergiant Games’ Hades 2 suddenly and unexpectedly entered Early Access on Steam. This meant that the roguelike genre title lost its number one spot, as the sequel to Hades is technically playable, so it can’t be wishlisted. So it lost the number one spot and was taken over by a game from China’s Game Science (and since the game, story and world are based on the Chinese work Journey to the West, it would be hard to find a more expert developer than them).
Black Myth: Wukong may not be unlike Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (though it should be noted that From Software’s game is a Japanese story, not a Chinese one), as it promises to be an action-packed, fast-paced game with a strong emphasis on parrying. Game Science is planning a trilogy, and if the groundwork is laid now, the two sequels could be released more quickly.
But behind the game on Steam’s top list is a long-awaited sequel like Hades 2. Hollow Knight: Silksong is in second place, and perhaps the reason why Black Myth: Wukong overtook the Knight is that the Chinese developer has a very fanatical fanbase. We heard in December that the game would be released sometime in 2024, so if it makes it to the starting line, Hollow Knight: Silksong could be the game that most people put on their Steam wishlist.
Or not, but for that we have to prepare for the scenario that Hollow Knight: Silksong somehow comes out before Black Mythos: Wukong. It could happen, you never know.
