Diablo Immortal: Tempest will Make Enemies… Er, Wet [VIDEO]

A new character class is being added to Activision Blizzard’s mobile-focused game, which is also available on PC and was in the news a year ago mostly for its exploitative monetization.

According to Blizzard, Tempest hails from the Cold Isles (north of Sanctuary’s western continent) and is both a warrior and a priest. She is a pure-hearted character who dances with blades, walks on waves, and knows the sea like the back of her hand. He fights with the power of the storm, with two swords (or daggers). We see him for the first time in a new 2.5D video, and although it looks mostly like an animated scene, there’s a bit of gameplay at the end, showing Tempest using his weapon to bring down a huge stormy sea on his enemies, slashing them with a water whip, sending them into whirlpools, and speeding through them as if there was water in front of him.

A free update will bring Tempest to Diablo Immortal, and he’ll also get a mission specifically for him. Diablo Immortal features a character class switch, so you can turn one of your existing characters into her and jump right into combat. Tempest wasn’t the first addition to the game, as Blood Knight was added last year. This is a vampire-like character type that uses blood as both a weapon and a resource. Both of these characters are considered brand new in Diablo’s nearly three-decade history.

How will Diablo Immortal be expanded in the future? Previously, Blizzard outlined a full year of content. This year has been dubbed “The Year of Unmaking” and will conclude with the return of Diablo himself. The last update featured new gear, a new endgame activity (Terror Rift), and a mission about fan-favorite Deckard Cain’s past.

Speaking of Diablo, a quick mention of Diablo IV: The fourth season’s Loot Reborn update is coming on May 14: There will be less loot in the game, but more useful loot, and two item upgrade systems will be added to fine-tune the gear. The first add-on, Vessel of Hatred, will be released at the end of the year.
