TECH NEWS – The new Ryzen processors (the Granite Ridge family) will come with Zen 5 cores and can be used to build up to 16-core configurations.
Chiphell Forums user wjm47196 claims that AMD is very close to releasing Zen 5 processors. These will achieve much higher performance in multi-threaded workloads and will be capable of more IPC (instructions per cycle). There could be 16, 12, 8, or 6 cores in the 9000 Ryzen CPUs. If AMD continues with the 7000 naming scheme, the Ryzen 5 5600X will be the 6-core, the Ryzen 7 9700X will be the 8-core, the Ryzen 9 9900X will be the 12-core, and the Ryzen 9 9950X will be the 16-core processor.
AMD will unveil the processors at Computex, but their release could be in July, ahead of rival Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs (they are targeting the third quarter, possibly early fourth quarter, so they could hit stores between July and October). AM5 motherboard manufacturers have already released BIOSes to support AMD’s new processors. No 700-series motherboards will come with the CPUs, but 800-series will, although manufacturers are likely to focus on the 600-series because those who have switched to the AM5 platform can easily upgrade with a drop-in CPU replacement.
Benchlife mentioned the B650E Aorus Pro X USB4 motherboard from Gigabyte. It’s one of the first boards to feature USB4, while the specs are similar to AMD’s 800 series motherboards as it’s ready for their Granite Ridge processors. The A820 will be the entry level, the B850(E) chipset will be the mainstream, and the high-end motherboards will have the X870(E) chipset. For example, the Gigabyte board I just mentioned will also have a PCIe EZ-Latch Plus PCIe connector, and not just because it looks like a premium motherboard.
So AMD’s new processors will be in the stores before Intel’s new products.
