Amazon to Publish an Open-World Racing Title by Ex-Forza Horizon Devs

Maverick Games is going multiplatform, so PlayStation will not be left out as it has been with the developer’s previous games.

Maverick Games was founded in 2022, and many of the founding members previously worked on Forza Horizon. It’s an open-world racing franchise, so they’re not straying too far from what they’re developing now. Among the founders is Mike Brown, who was the former creative director of Forza Horizon and is now the creative director of the yet-to-be-named game as the head of Maverick Games.

Also working on the game are Jamie Brittain (lead writer; co-creator of the BAFTA award-winning British TV show Skins), Tom Butcher (executive producer; previously worked on F1 All-Stars as well as the Forza Horizon titles), Matt Craver (technical director); Forza Horizon, Grid, Dirt), Gareth Harwood (content director; Forza Horizon, Fable reboot), Fraser Strachan (sound director; Forza Horizon), Ben Penrose (art director; Forza Horizon, Fable reboot) and Elly Marshall (visual design director; Forza Horizon 3, Just Cause 3, Dirt).

Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, said in a press release, “In our ongoing global search for talented development teams to create compelling titles that players will love, Maverick Games stood out as a studio that can deliver on all fronts. Mike and his team are the total package – proven game developers who are masters of their craft and not satisfied with the status quo. Their vision for this game is fresh and innovative, and we’re looking forward to working with them to bring it to gamers around the world.

Maverick Games studio head and creative director Mike Brown added: “We founded Maverick Games with a clear vision: to build a developer-first studio that fosters an environment of creativity and risk-taking. This approach empowers our team to produce the most extraordinary work of their careers. And ultimately, it means that we make a game that our players fall in love with. As we got to know the team at Amazon Games, it quickly became clear that we shared a common ethos – a commitment to giving developers the space to truly innovate in the service of creating experiences that players will find truly special. Without giving too much away, I will say that the team here is buzzing with excitement about our game and we can’t wait to share it with the world.

Maverick Games currently employs over 60 people in Warwick, UK and has several open positions on its website. Their narrative-driven, open-world driving game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
