PlayStation 5 Pro: Was it Partially Ready Last Year? [VIDEO]

Supposedly, Sony’s half-generation console update, which the company still hasn’t officially said anything about, was partially finished in 2023, so it looks like the company is waiting it out in the market.

In the latest episode of Moore’s Law Is Dead Broken Silicon’s podcast, he touched on the PlayStation 5 Pro. According to him, there was a time when it didn’t seem realistic for the console to be released, but Sony kept working and the silicon for the platform was ready in 2023. In theory, the company wants to time its release to coincide with the bigger games to better show what the console will be capable of.

One such game could be Grand Theft Auto 6, but Take-Two has already made it official that Rockstar will release it for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series sometime in the fall of 2025, meaning it will only be released for the current-gen consoles, which will certainly boost sales for both Microsoft’s and Sony’s consoles. Sony has no major in-house development planned for this year, so we’re unlikely to hear about any PlayStation Studios titles planned for 2024 during today’s State of Play…

Not much is known about the PlayStation 5 Pro, but there have been plenty of rumors about the console. Based on its specs, we’re hearing that it will have a slightly improved processor for a stable 40 FPS mode, while the 45% more powerful GPU will make games look better with dynamic upscaling (PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution = PSSR). PSSR will later support up to 8K resolution. The more powerful PlayStation 5 will also have better ray tracing performance.

The PlayStation 5 Pro should be talked about soon if Sony plans to release it this fall. If the console were to be released in 2025, it would look extremely silly that two years would pass between the finished silicon and the launch of the console. But since no platform has been announced yet, it’s just a rumor.
