Will a Decent XCOM Clone be Available for Free?

The game was released the year before last, so it’s not exactly a fresh title, but according to a very reliable insider, it will soon be free on a platform.

Billbil-kun is a name we’ve known for a long time. He was the one who was always telling us exactly what the next PlayStation Plus (Essential) monthly games would be, in many cases days before the official announcement, but he also often gave us credible information about Xbox Game Pass titles and sales. He also tweeted (or posted on a French language site, Dealabs) about some of the games that were coming to Mortal Kombat 1 or the State of Play a few days before they were announced.

Now he’s written that Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG that could be called an XCOM clone, will be available for free on the Epic Games Store from June 6th (8am Pacific) until June 13th. The base version of the game will be available for free. The Epic Mega Sales 2024 will end on June 13th, so you’ll also be able to add larger titles to your account through the Epic Games Launcher. Or from your browser by logging into your Epic account, but since you need the launcher to play the game, it would be easier that way.

In the case of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, perhaps XCOM clone is not the right term, but rather XCOM with Marvel paint, as the game was created by the franchise’s developers, Firaxis Games, and published by Take-Two, or more specifically, its 2K subsidiary. Since then, however, several people have left Firaxis to create a Sims rival under a new studio: we’ve written about this in more detail, but several people at Midsummer Studios previously worked for Firaxis and Maxis, the company behind The Sims.

It’s not official yet that Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be a free title in the Epic Games Store next week, but since it’s hard to imagine that billbil-kun is connected to hoax stuff, we can take what the leaker wrote 99% seriously…
