Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake: a Big Studio is Helping

Announced four years ago, the project has been through development hell since then, so maybe it will finally make it to the finish line, as almost everything has changed from the original concept.

Initially, two Ubisoft studios in India (Mumbai and Pune) worked on the remake, but the initial feedback was not very positive. The management of the French publisher wasn’t very impressed either, so they gave the project back to Ubisoft Montreal, who started the whole thing from scratch. Recently there have been some rumors about a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, but now it’s official that a major studio is helping to make it happen.

Ubisoft Toronto is working on the remake. This studio has worked on Watch_Dogs and recent Far Cry titles, so two major Canadian teams are planning to work on the remake. Ubisoft Toronto is usually involved in open-world games, but we don’t think the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will be a departure, even though they’ve rebuilt the project from the ground up.

Therefore, fans will have to forget everything they heard or saw in the reveal trailer years ago, i.e. the remake has been rewritten, the motion capture (mocap) has been re-recorded, so not much (maybe nothing) of the original concept remains, and although previously stated otherwise, Ubisoft’s previous work on Mumbai and Pune will not be used for the rebooted remake, which is said to have a “more realistic approach” compared to the announcement video. In addition to a complete graphical overhaul, the animation, combat mechanics and parkour have also been reworked, and Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who played the Prince in both the original trilogy and the original remake, will not be reprising his role in the remake.

A release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is not yet known, nor is it known when it will be released. Maybe the French publisher will talk about it at Ubisoft Forward.
