PlayStation VR2: A Lack of Functionality on PC!

Sony’s next-generation virtual reality headset will work on a PC with an adapter, but it won’t have all the features seen on the PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation VR2 was released last year, but so far Sony doesn’t seem to have released any sales figures for the headset. Perhaps the company decided that they didn’t want to be left with a lot of unsold headsets, so they announced that it would be available for PC use, but until now we didn’t know when the product would be officially available for use on a relatively powerful machine. Which one? Sony has released the system requirements.

PlayStation VR2 PC System Requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64/Windows 11 (no version number given)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7600/AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or higher architecture required)
  • Memory: 8GB of RAM
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 (minimum Turing architecture required) or RTX/AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT/RX 6500 XT
  • Recommended graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or higher/AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT or higher
  • DisplayPort: DP 1.4 (at least one standard DisplayPort or mini DisplayPort output required)
  • USB: Direct connection only
  • Bluetooth: 4.0 minimum (some adapters may not work)
  • Steam: PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR applications

According to the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, the PC adapter will be available from August 7th for €60, and since the headset itself costs €500, the total cost is €560, which includes the purchase of a 256GB Meta Quest 3. But that’s not the problem, it’s that many of the features simply won’t work on a PC, so they’ll only be available on the PlayStation 5.

HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback other than rumble will all be left out for PC. So the best features of the PlayStation VR2 remain on the console, so the question is, does it make sense to use Sony’s headset on a PC?

The OLED panels with a resolution of 2000×2040, a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a viewing angle of 110° may not be impressive enough.
