[SGF 2024] The First Descendant: Prepare to Take up Arms [VIDEO]

Nexon (who this time around won’t just be a publisher, as they’re developing the game in-house) has announced a release date for their cross-generation, free-to-play, cooperative looter shooter.

The release date announcement came in the form of a brand-new cinematic trailer, created in the recently updated Unreal Engine 5, in which key descendants enter the fray, face new enemies, and meet some new allies along the way. The latest trailer not only highlights the exciting action and cooperative gameplay that players will experience, but also reveals new characters and bosses that will be introduced at launch and through post-launch updates. Nexon is preparing to announce more details soon, including launch elements and events. More details will be shared through media and creator previews prior to launch.

Following the completion of the cross-play open beta in September 2023, game producer Lee Beomjun and director Minseok Joo have regularly shared key development updates via Dev Talks and Dev Notes, including top requested enhancements and game features such as mission variety, UI improvements, and further optimized graphics. Nexon is looking forward to officially sharing the full title with players next month, and will provide more launch details after that.

It will be interesting to see how the game expands after launch as it will be a live service title. This is the case with Ubisoft’s XDefiant, and the French publisher was also quick to announce how additional content will be added to that game. The First Descendant will launch on July 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

So over the next few weeks, Nexon will definitely give some details on how it will update The First Descendant until July 2025, as it’s usually a year ahead in this model…
