Silent Hill 2 Remake: The Original Developers Wanted More Changes!

Bloober Team didn’t want to overdo it, but since they had already made some very incomprehensible changes (it seems that it’s not the Polish studio that doesn’t understand what’s wrong, but Konami…), who knows how much more distorted the concept could have been.

If Konami had been able to override Bloober Team’s opinion, Silent Hill 2 Remake could have been changed even more. This was discussed by Motoi Okamoto, the game’s producer, in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, translated by VGC. According to Okamoto, the original developers could have changed many things, but the Bloober team questioned some things…

“The Japanese staff, including Masahiro Ito, the designer who worked on the original version, and Akira Yamaoka, the sound designer, would say, ‘We want to change this part,’ while on the other hand, the Bloober team would often reply, ‘No, we don’t want to change that! Sometimes the opinions clashed, but in the end I think we managed to get it right. I think you’ll see in the latest trailer that while it’s been reborn in a modern style, we’ve kept the good qualities of the original version.

Game developers don’t want to make the same thing over and over again. They don’t want people to play the same thing. So there were a lot of things they wanted to change completely in the remake. But in the end, thanks to the opinions of the Bloober team, who are big fans of the original, the remake ended up being very respectful of the original game. If we had formed a development team entirely in Japan, it might have been a completely different remake,” Okamoto said.

But that’s the problem with change. You can change something for the better or for the worse. When the latter happens, the original meaning of something or someone can be lost. This has happened and was mentioned yesterday. Sometimes you don’t HAVE to change, because you’ve created an excellent piece of work in the first place. And Silent Hill 2 is like that…
