A New Playable Character in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

Insomniac Games’ title is still a few years away, but a few things have already leaked out, so it’s worth pointing out that a lot could change by the time we get our hands on the studio’s latest release.

Before we get into the details of what’s leaked, we should mention some spoilers from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which was released last fall for PlayStation 5. Last December, Insomniac Games was the victim of a major ransomware attack that resulted in 1.6TB of data being leaked from the Sony studio. Employee information, a schedule of future games, the PlayStation 5 exclusive Wolverine development build, DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 were all in the package… and there were some details from Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

On Twitter, Visceral shared two images of the game. These are from a very early build, as the team that made the unofficial Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC port made the third part of the game available to run, which the leaker said started pre-production work on development mid to late last year, so this is a very early prototype. Regardless, the two images tell us a lot.

A female Spider-Man swings around a new open area that wasn’t there in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The graphics aren’t great yet, but that’s understandable, but the costume pattern suggests that Cindy Moon, or Silk, could be the new character in the game. The post-credits scene in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 already hinted at this, but we didn’t see her face there. It was also hinted that she didn’t have her superpowers yet, and we don’t know when Insomniac Games will officially introduce her to the universe.

It’s possible that she’ll get her own spin-off, much like Miles Morales did before becoming one of the main characters in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but Insomniac’s leaked schedule didn’t hint at that. She may make her first appearance in Venom. That game was internally slated for PlayStation 5 in 2025, but the leak may have changed plans…
