Elden Ring: FromSoftware is Not Against the Co-Op Mod!

In the future, the Japanese studio may even implement cooperative gameplay “out of the box”, so you won’t have to install a mod like you did with Elden Ring.

PCGamer did an interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, which we already had a look at yesterday. During the interview, a mod called Seamless Co-op was mentioned, which allows you to play through the entire game in one uninterrupted multiplayer session. What does Miyazaki think of this mod? Are you not keen on the idea, or are you all for it?

“Co-op is definitely not something we are actively against or want to downplay, because we want to play the whole game together. In terms of where we were with Elden Ring, it was just a case of wanting that more loose, casual style – drop in, beat a boss, drop out. It doesn’t put any technical restrictions on the player, it just kind of lets them complete that focus and then kind of move on. That’s not to say that we won’t consider other ways, like you and your friend playing full co-op from start to finish – that’s not to say that we won’t consider ideas like that with our future games,” Miyazaki said.

In Dark Souls, you had to use an item to summon another player to help you, and Elden Ring has severely limited that limitation with the crafting system. The summoning system (pool) has also been modified to make it easier to call for help during a difficult battle, as FromSoftware has grouped players’ summoning icons together.

Of course, Miyazaki did not reveal what the Japanese studio will be working on after Elden Ring. What is a trend, however, is that FromSoftware is making co-op more accessible in its games, and it looks like the Seamless Co-op mod has caught the team’s attention. It’s also the most popular mod on the Elden Ring Nexus Mods page, with over 3.6 million downloads. The second most popular mod is only a third of that with 1.2 million downloads so far…
