STEAM DECK NEWS – Emdoor’s EM-GP08MTL (that’s not an easy name to remember) hasn’t joined the ranks of Valve’s Steam Deck or Asus’ ROG Ally, though, opting instead for MSI’s Claw.
Emdoor unveiled their own handheld PC at Computex. This company is known for its rugged laptops or tablets, so this is a big turnaround for them, but they have admitted that they want to expand into the PC and gaming segments. The EM-GP08TL, based on Intel’s Meteor Lake Core Ultra 100 APUs, is intended for the latter, so the most powerful hardware in it could be a Core Ultra 7 155H CPU, with Intel’s Arc chip with Alchemist architecture in charge of the graphics. So they’re not going the AMD route.
It has an 8-inch OLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 1920×1200 resolution, 16 or 32 gigabytes of LPDDR5X-7500 memory, storage via a PCIe Gen4 x4 connector with an M.2 slot, which can be a 512 GB SSD as standard or a 2 TB SSD in the most expensive version. The operating system is Windows 11. It looks more compact with its large triggers and RGB-lit analog sticks. You can charge it via USB-C and there’s another USB-C port. There’s a vent on the top left, and a Lunar Lake version is planned for late 2024, possibly early 2025.
Speaking of Lunar Lake, there’s also a new laptop from Emdoor, but this one has an unremarkable codename: EM-326-ML14LNL… It uses Intel’s Core Ultra 200V processor and Emdoor wants to enter the AI PC market with it. It has a 14″ display, 16:10 aspect ratio, maximum resolution of 2560×1600, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a PCIe Gen5 X4 M.2 2280 connector for SSDs. It will come with a 1 or 2 megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi 7 support, Windows 11 OS, two Thunderbolt Type-C ports, one USB 3.2 Type-A port, one HDMI port, and will be available in gray. It will be released in the third quarter (July-September) for around $1500.
Hopefully their products will have more memorable names, because at the moment they don’t…
