Can Grand Theft Auto VI “Borrow” Some Features From The Competition?!

Grand Theft Auto VI is highly anticipated for its 2025 release, and Rockstar is taking the franchise to new heights with its heist-focused gameplay…

Grand Theft Auto VI is primed to be next year’s biggest game release. Although next year promises to be strong in terms of games, many are still waiting with bated breath for the long-awaited new instalment of Rockstar’s long-running franchise.

The game’s first and, so far, only trailer has provided an exciting cinematic glimpse into its world, and one thing has become clear: once again, adrenaline-pumping crime scenes will take centre stage.

As Tom Petty’s voice echoes in the game’s short trailer, the first look at GTA VI suggests that Lucia and Jason’s life of crime revolves mainly around robbery. Many have drawn from the game’s deep well of speculation, especially regarding Lucia and Jason’s story. They make a relatively obvious criminal duo, a la Bonnie and Clyde. The main characters of the game will apparently be small-scale robbers. Their missions are getting bigger and bigger, and this is the perfect opportunity for GTA VI to take inspiration from one of Payday 3’s biggest features: the masks.

Grand Theft Auto VI is the perfect home for Payday 3’s mask feature

Although Payday 3 launched to lukewarm reviews, the game’s many masks – both original and customizable – remained one of the most significant features of the franchise.

Customization allows players to truly create their own identity in the game, and GTA VI is fertile ground for further development of this mechanic.

For now, nothing is known about the missions of Grand Theft Auto VI. But it’s pretty evident that players can expect intense heists and escape scenarios. There are tons of ways the game could improve the franchise. However, the addition of customizable masks could be the perfect mechanic to allow players to truly feel like they are living the role of a bona fide career thief.

Creating your own mask brought a unique level of immersion to Payday 3. This feature would make a lot of sense in GTA VI. Immersion is Rockstar’s speciality, and an in-game option that allows players to imagine how Jason and Lucia would decorate their masks could be a simple but effective way to make players bond even more with the two characters.

In-game immersion aside, Payday 3’s almost countless masks are just plain fun.

The GTA franchise offers a wide selection of in-game clothing, so including a treasure trove of masks seems only natural. Plus, with GTA’s wonderfully crude sense of humour, there’s no telling what outrageous masks Rockstar could bring to life.
