Steam Deck: Valve Phases out two Models, Pick Them up for Cheap!

STEAM DECK NEWS – Valve is offering its handheld PCs at a very reasonable price, and the sale of one model in particular could make it a great buy if you haven’t already invested in one.

Valve’s product can be a great deal for people who don’t just want to play on a PC, but don’t want to carry around a laptop. The Steam Deck has created a market that has led Lenovo (Legion Go), MSI (Claw), Asus (ROG Ally) and many other companies to decide to make a portable PC.Gabe Newell’s device has a 7″ LCD display with 1280×800 resolution and AMD’s 15W APU. Four cores, eight threads, 3.5GHz boost clock, RDNA 2 graphics architecture. Not bad, although competitors have more modern hardware, but they’re more expensive to buy.

When the Steam Deck was released (in 2022), the 256GB model was recommended because it already had an NVMe SSD that could be swapped out for an SSD with more storage. It was available for $529, but the 512GB model did not have the etched glass on the device. The Steam Deck finally got a refreshed version, as Valve released the OLED model in addition to the LCD version, which resulted in the LCD versions getting a price cut. Now, the 64 and 512 GB LCD models are deeply discounted, as Valve is running a 15% sale until July 11th.

We don’t recommend the 64GB model, as it has an eMMC SSD, which is not enough for Windows and more games (and it’s not NVMe), even though you can buy it for 314€. On the other hand, we can recommend the 512 GB model: €400! You can put a lot of games on your computer in addition to Windows, or if you stick with SteamOS, you can put even more games on the NVMe SSD…

For reference, the 512GB OLED Steam Deck costs €570, so if you’re happy with the older display, you can get one now for a pretty cheap price. The difference is that the LCD has a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz (OLED: 90), the battery is 40Wh (OLED: 50) and it has Wi-Fi 5 (OLED: Wi-Fi 6E).
