More on Amazon’s Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings Games Coming Soon

Soon, Amazon will begin releasing new information about Miss Croft and the Tolkien legacy.

During an interview with Variety, Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games, was asked when we’ll hear more about the Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings games that Amazon will be releasing. Hartmann previously co-founded and served as president of 2K Games (=Take-Two) nearly two decades ago, and before that worked at BMG Interactive, where he met two familiar faces. You may know the names of Sam and Dan Houser, who started a little game known as Grand Theft Auto back in 1997…

When will we hear more news about Amazon’s games, which have been announced but not shown much? “It’s not going to be tomorrow, but it’s not too far off. Like I said, we’re getting into a much more regular cadence of shipping games. That’s all I can tell you right now. It’s all about quality. You don’t want to be rushed out. That doesn’t work. It has to be triple-A quality because the bar is so high,” Hartmann said. He’s right that the bar is high, especially for Tomb Raider.

Amazon has announced that it will release the next Tomb Raider in December 2022. The developer behind it is Crystal Dynamics, the team known for the reboot trilogy. The team didn’t escape layoffs last year as a result of… how many times have we heard this, a “restructuring program” as owner Embracer Group grew too big too fast. 44 studios closed, 80 games canceled, 4532 jobs lost…

At the time, Crystal Dynamics wrote that they wanted to reassure fans that these cuts would not affect their work on Perfect Dark (The Initiative is being supported by the studio) and that development on the new Tomb Raider would continue unabated. The only question now is when it will be released, because we think Gamescom will be the answer when we hear about it…
