Frostpunk 2: A Small Delay, but More Refinements in Return!

11 Bit Studios has postponed the release date of Frostpunk 2 for about two months this year, but the reasons given by Jakub Stokalski (the game’s design director) and Lukasz Juszczyk (the art director) are very honest.

Stokalski and Juszczyk announced the delay and the reason on Steam: “Based on the surveys we received after playing the beta, the average rating you gave us was 8 out of 10. We’re super grateful for that! At the same time, it was only a small slice of a work-in-progress, still-growing game. While our backlog is large, it was an opportunity for us to hear what you liked and what didn’t quite land.

This allowed us to better prioritize things, and bring the features and changes we were already working on up front. But we also realized that in order to guarantee the best possible experience at launch, we needed more time to finish development on Frostpunk 2. That’s why we’ve made the difficult decision to push the release date back to September 20th,” Stokalski and Juszczyk wrote.

They also listed some of the things the team will be working on in the nearly two extra months they have: Changes to temperature, heat, and proximity-based gameplay, including new and rebalanced hubs that will make the city-building gameplay deeper and more impactful; more detailed and flexible workforce management; more direct-use abilities in the game loop to help you respond to crises more dynamically; a new resource to make city-building and expansion more strategic and help you stabilize the city’s economy; the ability to reshape your districts after they are built; faction behavior that is more in line with their lore; a more thorough and complex approach to dealing with protests.

They are also improving the HUD to make it clearer and more intuitive; adding a new construction menu along with five new city hubs; and improving the clarity, readability, and look & feel of the Idea Tree and Frostland. Zoom Stories will also be included: zooming in on specific neighborhoods to get a closer look at the daily lives of the residents.

Frostpunk 2 will be available for PC from September 20th (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store).
