Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake’s Production Producer is Keen to work with Kojima! [VIDEO]

Noriaki Okamura, one of the prominent developers behind Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, revealed in the first official Metal Gear Production Hotline video that he would love to.

He also admits that many people have since moved on (including franchise creator Hideo Kojima), but like Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feature the original development team. The questions were submitted by fans, and in the video Konami also showed viewers the graphics and controls of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

So what are the chances of the original cast returning? “It’s not my place to answer on behalf of anyone outside the company, or to guess how they might feel about it. But speaking for myself, I would love nothing more than to work with Kojima-san and the rest of the team again. If that could happen, that would be the dream. But people have moved on to new things and new commitments, and that’s just our current reality. We can’t just take it for granted that everyone will work with us again, or be completely dependent on them. I just don’t think it’s right for us to make that kind of demand on anyone. So we work with the expectation that whatever we do, it’s up to us, it’s on our shoulders to do a good job. But on a related note, since we had a lot of questions about this, Kojima and all the original development staff are of course credited for their original roles. They were already included in [Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1], and they’ll be included in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. They’re part of those games as well, so they’re definitely in,” Okamura said.

Another legitimate question is whether the remake will have the original dubbing? The answer is yes, but not completely: “For both Japanese and English, the story of the game and all the voice acting will be the same. We definitely didn’t do any recasting. However, and this is something you see a lot in Metal Gear, the characters will give you advice on how to play, especially the controls. But some of those lines don’t work with the controls on consoles now, and you can’t really have that, so we actually recorded new versions of those lines. And unfortunately, some of the original cast members are no longer with us, or couldn’t be available to record, so in those cases we made sure we had permission first, and then went through and used their existing recordings to assemble the new lines,” Okamura added.

Who is working on the remake? Are there any outside studios? “We still have many of the same people who worked on the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as part of the team. And we’re also working with a number of people at external partners. In particular, we’re working closely with the very capable team at Virtuos, who have worked with us on other Metal Gear titles. They’re helping us on a number of fronts, especially since we’re making this game in Unreal Engine 5 instead of the FOX engine that we’ve been using. Their expertise in that area has been a huge help. We’re really happy to have them working with us,” said Okamura, who went on to say that they started (!) the remake with Metal Gear Solid 3 because the franchise had a lot of room to move and they thought it was the most logical place to start…

So that’s the one they’re STARTING with. So they can move on to other games in the future.
