With Assassin’s Creed Shadows not looking like a major project, the next installment of Far Cry is likely to be the French publisher’s big launch, and a reliable insider has revealed more details.
Twenty years ago, the Far Cry story began, as it was released on PC in 2004. It wasn’t bad, but the second installment managed to outdo it, but it was the third game (released in 2012) that really made the franchise mainstream, and perhaps its charismatic villain Vaas Montenegro played a big part in that. But more than 11 years have passed since then, and we’re now at Far Cry 6. It was released in 2021, and it wasn’t very memorable. With a new installment coming out every 2-3 years, we’re probably not far from Far Cry 7.
Tom Henderson wrote on Insider Gaming, citing his source, that Far Cry 7 is already in the works (but that’s provable). Ubisoft calls it Project Blackbird and it’s being developed by Ubisoft Montréal on the Snowdrop engine and will be released in 2025. Previous rumors have also given the game a name (Far Cry: Rise), and it will take place on a fictional tropical island called Kimano. Kimano is located somewhere off Korea in the Yellow Sea. According to Henderson, the game’s name and possible location are incorrect.
Far Cry 7 has a non-linear story, Henderson says, and focuses on rescuing a wealthy family that has been kidnapped by a group called the Songs of Truth. You can interrogate NPCs to get information and find out where the family members are. You have 72 hours to do this in the game, and because time moves three times faster in the game, you have 24 hours to do it in real time. We can rescue family members in any order, and it makes sense that if we rescue them all, we’ll have 100% completion.
However, this is not official. Far Cry 7 hasn’t been officially announced yet, and we may have to wait until this year’s The Game Awards for that.
