Two Friday the 13th Games in Development? Will Jason Appear in a Game we wouldn’t Expect?

There have been several rumors about the franchise, and one of them sounds very strange at first glance.

Friday the 13th is one of the most influential horror film franchises and one of the oldest in the genre (it debuted in 1980). It has spawned 12 slasher films, a TV series, and many books, comics, and video games. The first game came from Domark in 1986 for the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum (Friday the 13th: The Computer Game), and then in 1989 Atlus (yes, the company known for Persona and Shin Megami Tensei!) and LJN brought Jason Voorhees to the NES.

In 2017, Friday the 13th: The Game arrived courtesy of IllFonic, followed by Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle from Blue Wizard Digital in 2018. There was also a mobile release in 2006, but even taking that into account, it’s fair to say that Jason hasn’t had much of a foothold in the gaming industry. However, according to a tweet from CineStealth, the serial killer may be getting two games at once! The first will be multiplayer, and the second will reportedly have a much more linear gameplay. The latter might even be reminiscent of the Resident Evil/Alien: Isolation pairing.

There’s another rumor you can read in the tweet: Jason Voorhees, if it’s true, will be making a guest appearance in the next season of Fortnite! Strangely, there will be no reference to the Friday the 13th brand in Epic Games’ popular battle royale game. Only Jason will make an appearance, which might be a logical move given the complicated licensing situation and Tim Sweeney’s reluctance to go to court over it.

The rumors seem to be no coincidence. In May, Horror Inc, co-owner of the IP, said it was planning a multiplatform expansion of the classic franchise, so games could be involved in some way…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
