MOVIE NEWS – Jack Kesy stars in Hellboy: The Crooked Man, co-written by original creator Mike Mignola.
Different Hellboys come and go, but evil never sleeps – and who better to defeat it than the lovable red superhero? Later this year, Jack Kesy will be the third actor to play Mike Mignola’s Hellboy on the big screen. Now we get to see him in action for the first time in the trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man. (See at the end of the article!)
The trailer opens with scenic shots of the trees, rocks, and hills of Appalachia. But it soon becomes clear that something is deeply wrong here. “Smells like death,” announces Kesy’s character. As the trailer continues, we see a floating woman bitten by a snake, locusts and other gruesome sights.
Based on the comic book miniseries of the same name by Mignola and artist Richard Corben, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set in the 1950s.
Adeline Rudolph (Resident Evil) stars as a rookie BPRD (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) agent who teams up with Hellboy to protect the residents of Appalachia from the creepy “Crooked Man” who collects souls for the devil.
According to the story, BPRD founder Professor Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm discovered Hellboy as an infant demon and raised him to protect humanity from monsters less enlightened than him. Throughout his unnaturally long life, Hellboy often teams up with the BPRD to solve paranormal mysteries and defeat demons.
In addition to Kesy and Rudolph, the film also stars Jefferson White (Yellowstone) as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher and Martin Bassindale as the aforementioned villain.
Mignola himself co-writes the new film. (The creator of Hellboy, who wrote and drew many of the comics that bear his name.) Also, Christopher Golden (who has worked with Mignola on Hellboy-related comics before). The film was directed by Brian Taylor (Crank) and was shot between March and May 2023 in Bulgaria.
