Title from Hit Game Series is Coming to PS Plus, but That’s Not the Only Good News!

Borderlands 3 is coming to PS Plus, which could be a step towards the rumoured Borderlands 4…

PlayStation Plus Essential members receive a selection of “free” games in their library every month, and the July offering has already arrived. June’s PS Plus Essential titles received a lukewarm reception. Streets of Rage 4 was arguably the most significant title of the three. Now that July’s PlayStation Plus Essential titles are almost here, one stands out above the rest.

The July 2024 lineup for PlayStation Plus Essential has been officially announced, with individual games coming to the service on July 2, 2024, which is today.

Two of the titles, Among Us and NHL 24, are a bit confusing, considering that Among Us costs next to nothing anyway, and NHL 24 got terrible reviews. The last title, Borderlands 3, didn’t fare too well with critics either. But his addition to the service could mean big news for the franchise.

The arrival of Borderlands 3 on PS Plus could finally lead to the long-awaited launch of Borderlands 4

It’s been almost five years since Borderlands 3 was released. That means fans have been waiting about that long for news about Borderlands 4. It would be logical that Borderlands 4 would have at least been mentioned. But the officials still haven’t said anything specific about it.

Instead, the upcoming reveal of Borderlands 4 is fueled by rumours and leaks, primarily based on cryptic statements from Gearbox and previously known reliable leakers.

One of the most unfortunate recent developments regarding the potential reveal of Borderlands 4 was the release of a series of recap videos by the official Borderlands Twitter (X) account. Many fans believed that these would eventually lead to the trailer for Borderlands 4. However, much to the chagrin of those waiting for news of the next game in the franchise, these recap videos only prepared the reveal of the live-action Borderlands movie. The film’s unveiling instead of Borderlands 4 ended up being a double whammy, as the trailer received a hostile reception.

Borderlands 4 is yet to be announced

As if that disappointment wasn’t enough, Borderlands 4 was later rumoured to be revealed at Summer Games Fest in June. The rumours were spread by a reliable leaker. After 2K confirmed Borderlands 4 following their acquisition of Gearbox, it seemed almost inevitable that the game would be revealed during the Summer Games Fest. Unfortunately, those rumours never turned out to be accurate, so Borderlands 4 seems further away than ever – at least until now.

It’s not uncommon for titles in the series to seemingly “randomly” join the PlayStation Plus lineup right before their successor is announced.

For the most part, PlayStation Plus additions typically follow current trends. In June, games such as Monster Hunter Rise were added as news of Monster Hunter Wilds gained traction. With that in mind, Borderlands 3 coming to PlayStation Plus in July could mean that the reveal of Borderlands 4 is just around the corner, especially because of rumors that have arisen recently but were ultimately not confirmed.

It’s worth noting that fans should temper their expectations. Especially considering how many reveal opportunities Borderlands 4 has missed lately. Borderlands 3 coming to PS Plus in July can mean absolutely nothing. Regardless, it’s okay to have at least a little hope that the long-awaited title will finally be announced. It’s clear that Gearbox and 2K are playing with very open cards. This can only benefit Borderlands 4 in the long run.
