Resident Evil 9: Capcom Reveals its Director

Although the Japanese company did not specify that it is Resident Evil 9, Capcom has revealed who will be directing the “new” game, and they will certainly be using their fresh loot in the development.

During the Capcom Next broadcast, Koshi Nakanishi from the Japanese publisher appeared and revealed that a new Resident Evil is in development, and he said that it was quite difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but then he figured it out and feels that it’s significant what’s being made. He wasn’t able to give any more details (the earliest Capcom could do that would probably be at The Game Awards, as Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show seem unlikely), but he hopes that the public is as excited as he is for this moment in time.

But who is Nakanishi? He was previously a designer on Resident Evil 5, then worked in a similar position on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (that game came out for the 3DS), then came Resident Evil: Revelations, still as a designer, and then became the director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. (He was replaced by Morimasa Sato for Resident Evil: Village.) So Nakanishi is back as director, but we don’t know what to expect from Resident Evil 9. Rumors have been flying, and we’ve reported on them.

Capcom has also announced that it has acquired two-thirds of the shares of Minimum Studios in Taiwan. This is a 3D CG (computer graphics) studio that was founded in 2018. The studio also worked on the animations for Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. They were acquired by the Japanese company in order to increase their development and technological capabilities, as well as to reach the sales goal of 100 million units per year.

Minimum Studios will certainly be working on Resident Evil 9, but now as an in-house team.
