Don’t worry, it’s not the latest episodes that are affected (it would be very annoying if Battlefield 2042 was delisted now, but luckily for us that’s not the case), but the truth remains that three Battlefield episodes are saying goodbye to two consoles.
Electronic Arts has announced that the three Battlefields in question will not only disappear from digital stores, but their online services will also be shut down. The games in question are Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline. These three games were released in 2011, 2013 and 2015 respectively, and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of these games are going away. Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline were cross-generational games, so they were released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Battlefield 3 only appeared on the PS3/X360 duo alongside PC.
For now, only Battlefield 3 will leave the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, with Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline on the two previous console generations. You can still buy them until July 31st, and since all three games have a decent story mode (it was pretty important back then, but not so much nowadays…), they’re worth investing in. You can still play them online, but only until November 7th, when the PS3 and X360 servers for the three Battlefields will be shut down. Electronic Arts added that Battlefield 3 will remain available on PC, while Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Three other Battlefield installments have already suffered a similar fate. The three that came before the current three, with Battlefield: Bad Company in 2008, Battlefield 1943 in 2009 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 2010. These were removed from digital stores in April last year and then had their servers shut down in December.
Speaking of Battlefield, we should mention that the final season of Battlefield 2042 will be the seventh. It started in March and is called Turning Point. It is indeed a turning point: from now on, no new content will be added to the game…
