MOVIE NEWS – Knight Rider, Baywatch, the New Year’s Eve concert during the fall of the Berlin Wall… now we can add Hoff’s new gig to the list!
David Hasselhoff has become the face of Make Green Tuesday Moves (MGTM), a “video game climate change alliance”. The plan is for a different celebrity to promote a unique DLC on the first Tuesday of each month. MGTM will invest proceeds from the sale of in-game items (new or recycled DLC such as characters, costumes, and items) in sustainability projects fully certified by the non-profit digital platform PlanetPlay. These games can be found on the Google Play Store (e.g. Bowling Club, Hunt Royale, Peridot, Tile Dynasty) and have a total of 36 million players per day.
Among the projects supported are the Hongera Project, which helps Kenyan families improve their lives by manufacturing and distributing clean cookstoves, and the WAI Wanaka Water Conservation Project in New Zealand. “As someone who has spent years entertaining audiences around the world, I know the power of influence. Climate change isn’t some distant threat; it’s here and now. By joining the Make Green Tuesday Moves initiative, we can turn our everyday play into a force for good. Let’s make every shot count for our planet. Together, we can create a legacy of sustainability for generations to come. Stay cool, stay green, and make a difference,” says Hoff.
Google is running this campaign quite heavily on the Play Store. From the company, Tamzin Taylor says that MGTM is a great example of how the gaming industry can turn its reach into a positive impact, while Rhea Loucas, CEO of PlanetPlay, is confident that Hasselhoff will influence millions to play games to keep global warming below one and a half degrees. Hasselhoff is a bit ignorant because he still thinks people play with joysticks. Those haven’t been used much since the C64-Amiga days!
And what’s scariest (or most humorous?) is that Hasselhoff and KITT can be seen in the second video below. Ouch?
