At first glance, it’s not the devkit that’s in the picture, but what’s around it (and partly on it), and the name is very clever!
On Twitter, Consolevariations wrote that Sony’s internal hardware has been leaked because someone made a lot of money selling the PlayStation 5 devkit. How much did the buyer pay? $6,000! The seller fooled the algorithm by playing around with the V-shaped notch (we saw this in 2019 when the look of the devkit was first posted online) and branded it as a PlayStation Pizza Kit or PizzaStation, with some pizza boxes around it.
A devkit isn’t really designed for the average user (it’s called a DEVELOPER KIT for a reason), but in 2022 we got a glimpse of some of the features that aren’t available in the store version. And for full functionality, you’ll need a developer account, and that’s usually tied to the hardware you’re using, so you can’t fully use Sony’s device.
Now the question is, when will we see the PlayStation 5 Pro and its devkit? Theoretically, Sony will come out with another half-generation hardware update, as it did with the PlayStation 4 Pro (and Microsoft’s Xbox One X). The PlayStation 5 Pro is rumored to be slightly more powerful, with slightly stronger specs, better ray tracing performance, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology. This console is rumored to be released in late 2024, possibly in the first few months of 2025 (presumably by the end of March, as that’s the end of the fiscal year).
Rumor has it that Sony is planning a PlayStation Showcase (bigger than the State of Play) in September, and that’s where the PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to be revealed. How much will it cost?
