Is FromSoftware Working on a New Armored Core Game?

It’s worth taking a closer look at what’s going on at the Japanese studio that recently released the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Tree DLC.

A job ad from FromSoftware was spotted this week by resourceful Internet users. On the Tech4Gamers forum, cindiestarlight posted that the Japanese studio is looking for a Character Modeler, who will be responsible for modeling and texturing characters and models. This doesn’t automatically mean that Armored Core 7 is already in development, but there is a chance that it will happen, as Hidetaka Miyazaki, the company’s president, has already said that he doesn’t see much chance of a sequel to Elden Ring being made… and he has even thought about making a new Armored Core.

The first installment of the franchise was released 27 years ago, with Armored Core coming to PS1 in Japan on July 10, 1997. It was released in North America at the end of October and in Europe in June 1998. Armored Core 2 was one of the PlayStation 2 launch titles (Japan: August 2000, North America: October 2000, Europe: January 2001), and its direct sequel was Armored Core 2: Another Age (released in Europe in September 2002, elsewhere in spring or summer 2001). Armored Core 3 was a reboot (released in 2002/2003 for PS2, 2009/2010 for PSP), and Armored Core 4 was a reboot again (released in 2006 in Japan and 2007 elsewhere, and the first non-PlayStation title as it was released for PS3 and X360). Armored Core V was still released on the PS3/X360 duo in 2012, so a decade passed before the main sixth episode reached us.

However, Reddit points out that the Armored Core-related job offer has been available since 2018, so this probably wasn’t for the new episode, but for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Shame…
