The First Descendant: Nexon Responds to Destiny 2 Theft Allegations

Released last week, the free-to-play game, which made it into the top 10 on Steam despite mixed reviews, has already reached more than 10 million players.

Released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, The First Descendant has already been played by more than 10 million people, according to a tweet from Nexon. We don’t know the platform ratio, but SteamDB puts the number of concurrent players at 264,000 six days ago. VG Insights puts it at 1.37 million, and Gamalytic estimates that 3.19 million players have added the loot-collecting shooter to their Steam libraries. Aside from the fact that it appears to be using Destiny 2 icons (we reported on this earlier), IGN was sent this statement from the developers:

“The First Descendant, as a looter-shooter game, was created with a deep affection and respect for other games in the genre. Destiny 2, as a world-renowned looter shooter game, is also personally admired and respected by the team and has served as an inspiration during the development process. We have taken the concerns raised seriously and have decided to make adjustments to ensure that the imagery that may appear similar clearly reflects the unique identity of our game. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the first-person shooter genre,” Nexon wrote.

With 1.0.2, a matchmaking feature (Start Public Operation) was added to the game for the hard difficulty Infiltration Operations, and the director explained it this way “The development team acknowledges the community’s concerns about the monotonous patterns of Named Monsters and is working to improve them. Specifically, we have determined that the pattern of breaking orbs in a specific order is not appropriate for public matching and have decided to remove it immediately. As new patterns are developed, we will update the patterns of existing Named Monsters one at a time. Since Named Monsters often appear in hard difficulties and special operations, we will continue to work on diversifying their patterns.”

Nexon has permanently banned 3481 users from The First Descendant (they are listed on the game’s website) for cheating. Nexon has improved the stability of the shader preparation process by reducing the CPU load, and VRAM usage has also been improved on High or higher graphics settings.
