Unexpected Turn in The Division 2: Your Character’s Progress Won’t Be Lost in the New Season!

Ubisoft will not be using the original approach for the second part of The Division, as the public gave the developers very bad feedback.

The original plan was to reset players’ characters to level 1 at the start of each season, as this would keep The Division 2 challenging and prevent players from rushing through content. However, Massive Entertainment saw that players did not like this concept, so there will be no seasonal characters, and this change will not affect plans for Year Six, but the developers will have to rethink the changes needed for the new seasonal experience. More news will be announced when they have the details, and then they can get more feedback through a live broadcast and a public test server.

The announcement on Twitter was very well received, especially since the planned changes will not make it into The Division 2, but it seems that players will be able to keep their characters between seasons and grind out new content very quickly if they want to. While most are happy about the change, some are still waiting for more information. Will they be able to have one new character per season alongside their main character, or is the main character mandatory for the season?

While there are still unanswered questions, The Division 2 has been running for six years and still has a strong community, and taking action on these tough changes is commendable. The French publisher has not had an easy time with new content, but it is commendable that it has been updating the live service model for over half a decade. Of course, it would be nice if the game could be played offline, as the first The Crew was rendered unplayable when the servers went down.

Except that Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland has been canceled in the meantime (even the gameplay has been leaked).
