Has an Image of an Earlier Build of the Long-Awaited BioShock 4 been Leaked?

There are rumors that we might be able to see an image from the new BioShock franchise, but it’s most likely from an earlier version…

When BioShock was released in 2007, it received excellent reviews and the immersive simulator quickly got a sequel. The popularity of the franchise with BioShock 2 brought in a lot of money for publisher Take-Two (2K), but perhaps it wasn’t as good as the first installment. In 2013 came BioShock Infinite, which was once again a hugely successful title. But that was the end of the story in terms of games released, if you don’t count remasters (or re-releases).

BioShock 4 is in the works, but Take-Two hasn’t officially announced anything about it yet. The game is being worked on by Cloud Chamber, and we’ve written before that there are many open positions on the development team for key roles, suggesting that it may have undergone a reboot. Now we have a screenshot of it, courtesy of MP1st. This image was reportedly used during a 2021 demonstration and is likely from a prototype. According to the site, the image was created by a visual effects artist.

The image is labeled Parkside Demo, which makes sense since we knew the codename of BioShock 4 (Parkside). The image quality is a bit grainy, but you can see everything in the screenshot taken at night: first-person gameplay, something glowing strangely, there’s a HP bar, another green bar below it, three abilities in the bottom left corner (similar to plasmids in previous episodes), and the weapon is called Ricochet Shotgun.

According to previous leaks, BioShock 4 is set in Antarctica and could even be open world. If we are indeed going to have adventures around the South Pole, that could be interesting, but we should also add that Ken Levine, a former key player in the franchise, is not working on the game. He is currently developing Judas, and that might be closer to release.

The picture of BioShock 4 is not official, but it doesn’t look fake either…
