Supposedly the sequel to Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has been canceled and another project may have gotten a game over, so things don’t look good for Microsoft.
The other project that has been canceled is codenamed Project Dragon. This was developed by Phoenix Labs and was a brand new IP. Former Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time character designer and illustrator Nicholas Kole talked about the cancellation of both projects on Twitter. Poor Crash, he hasn’t had much success lately, aside from the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash 4. The reboot of the trilogy came almost a decade after the release of 2008’s Crash: Mind Over Mutant.
But then came Crash Team Rumble, which wasn’t as memorable. Toys For Bob, who were behind Crash Team Rumble and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, have split off from Activision Blizzard King, so maybe we were right to hope that Crash and Spyro would get another chance. One of them is supposedly finished. After three years of work on one project (Project Dragon), internal attempts to save it failed and the embargo was lifted.
Oh heck, I’m sorry folks- it’s not Spyro. I didn’t mean to give the fandom a heart attack. “Dragon” is our code name for the totally new IP we were developing for over 3 years.
But I’m pretty confident if you’ve ever liked anything I’ve done, you’d have *loved* this one— Nicholas Kole (@FromHappyRock) July 13, 2024
It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts

Yes, two totally separate cancelled projects at two different studios

Alright, let’s start things off 😭
Project Dragon was a cosy sandbox survival crafting multiplayer rpg- a buildable world made of blocks inspired by minecraft filled with fantasy characters and quests inspired by breath of the wild, and I loved working on it dearly https://t.co/KFMnuDnsWb pic.twitter.com/ZD0bckDpnH

This is not the same as Spyro. In another tweet he also said that one day we will hear about Crash 5 and it will break our hearts. Two projects from two different studios have been canceled. Project Dragon was a multiplayer RPG with sandbox, survival and crafting elements, all in a more relaxed, cozy style. It would have been a Minecraft-like world of blocks full of fantasy characters and quests inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
So it looks like Crash 5 is done, even though Toys for Bob clearly loved working on the IP, and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was good for the most part (although they overdid the gems in it).
