GTA+: Is Rockstar’s Subscription Service Expanding…?

This seems like an odd move, as GTA+ doesn’t really fit the target platform, presumably because the main element of the service isn’t available on it…

GTA+ will launch in March 2022 and will cost €8 per month, after a price increase this year. There is no multi-month or annual subscription, you pay Rockstar and Take-Two monthly. The service offers Rockstar games for free in a continuous rotation. These include Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Xbox, PlayStation), GTA: Liberty City Stories (iOS, Android), GTA: Chinatown Wars (iOS, Android) and Red Dead Redemption (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series).

On Twitter, Tez2 posted that the list of games available through GTA+ has been updated to include Nintendo Switch. That’s odd, because GTA+ is mainly a feature for Grand Theft Auto Online players (extra money, cars, cosmetic items, exclusive events, and we wrote about a feature we’ve been asking for years that can only be accessed through GTA+…), and Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, has not been released on Nintendo’s console to the best of our knowledge, although there have been fan attempts to get it in the past.

What’s available on Nintendo Switch? Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and LA Noire. It’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing. In any case, it seems that Rockstar and Take-Two are trying to squeeze even more money out of gamers to open up a new money spigot every month, since the Switch is technologically behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and only those two current-gen platforms are available for subscription.

This move is certainly a strategic one, as the Switch’s successor will be unveiled soon. According to the Japanese company, the Switch’s successor will be unveiled in March at the latest; we think it’s more likely that the launch will happen by then, as the Switch also started its global conquest in March 2017.
