Has Apple’s Mobile Game Ports Failed? Ridiculously Weak Resident Evil 7 Sales on iOS!

Despite the Cupertino-based company’s loud proclamation that iOS could be a great opportunity for AAA games, the public doesn’t seem very interested in these ports…

Taking Appmagic’s estimates into account, Mobilegamer.biz has calculated how poorly the iOS port of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has started. Released in July for Apple mobile, the port has been downloaded around 83,000 times so far. That’s not 83,000 sales. The first part of the game is free to play, after that you have to pay $20 to experience the full adventure. But how many people have BUYED the story of Ethan Winters on iOS?

According to Appmagic, Capcom has achieved sales of $281,140. From that, you have to subtract a 30% profit margin for Apple. Divide that by 20 and you get about 985. Less than 2,000 customers, and according to Mobilegamer.biz, even that four-figure figure is only because of the big round-ups. This is ridiculous. Back in June, Appmagic’s head of content, Andrei Zubov, said that Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil: Village, Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed: Mirage all had similar weeks.

“Looking at the top performing premium mobile games, we can see that many are originally indie titles. These games tend to have simpler controls, emphasize unique art styles over high-end graphics, and are designed for shorter play sessions. These are the usual attributes of successful free-to-play mobile games,” Zubov said, adding that a large portion of consumers probably already have these games on a modern console.

And with that said, it’s safe to say that there aren’t a lot of native AAA ports for the platform being played on mobile. If Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is this bad (and more expensive because the full version on PlayStation 4 is CHEAPER!), what’s the point?
