BREAKING! What We Feared About the Halo Series Has Been Confirmed!

MOVIE NEWS – Paramount+’s Halo series has some sad news… at least for some fans, while others celebrated.

Paramount+’s live-action Halo series has been cancelled after two seasons. Fans have been waiting for news about Season 3 for more than three months, but according to Variety, the series will not be returning on Paramount+.

The series originally debuted in 2022 and was generally received positively by critics. However, some fans weren’t happy with what they got from the start. Despite the criticism, the series was successful enough to be screened for a second season in February 2024. The new episodes seemed to try to iron out the flaws of the first season, and the show is well on its way to continuing with another season. Since then, there have been hints about possible storylines for season 3, but these will likely come to nothing.

In a statement released by the streaming platform, Paramount+ said:

“Paramount+ can confirm that ‘Halo’ will not move forward with a third season on the service.”

“We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward.”

Could Halo return with another streamer?!

Although Halo’s time at Paramount has come to an end, fans of the series don’t have to give up hope that it will return just yet. In a separate statement, 343 Industries, the engine behind the game franchise, thanked fans and offered a faint ray of hope that the world of Halo isn’t over. They put it as follows:

“We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the ‘Halo’ series to be a global success and we remain committed to broadening the ‘Halo’ universe in different ways in the future. We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their partnership in bringing our expansive sci-fi universe to viewers around the world.”

Variety reports that an insider familiar with the team behind Halo has said that there are plans to sell the series to another streaming platform. If this is successful, another Halo season could still happen at some point in the future. (This would not be unprecedented even for a sci-fi series: just recall the fate of The Expanse…)

Many celebrated the cancellation of the series

While the cancellation of a series based on a popular IP is usually met with a wave of disappointment on social media, Halo proved to be an exception. While the series did well with critics, audiences had mixed feelings about the series’ adaptation of the franchise. Therefore, the news of the series’ cancellation didn’t elicit many tears from those who felt the video games deserved better.

Incidentally, the series took nearly two decades to reach the screens after Neill Blomkamp first developed the idea of a film in the franchise in 2005. Unfortunately, the ending happened much faster. A possible sequel now depends on another streaming service taking over the costly project. However, since the deletion – unlike, e.g. the already mentioned The Expanse – received a particularly positive reception, this outcome seems unlikely at the moment…
