Ryan Reynolds Shares How Madonna’s “Great Note” Improved a Scene in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

MOVIE NEWS – Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy revealed that Madonna had a “great note” for the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ film. It seems Madonna might be stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a director.

After Ryan Reynolds contacted the Queen of Pop to get permission to use her 1989 song ‘Like a Prayer’ in Deadpool & Wolverine, he revealed that Madonna “gave a great note” for the scene, which quickly made it into the final cut.

“First of all, Madonna doesn’t typically license her songs, especially not this one,” Reynolds said on SiriusXM. “So it was a big deal to ask for it and an even bigger deal to use it… We went over, met with her, and showed her how and where it would be used, and why.”

Director Shawn Levy admitted that “it felt like we were meeting royalty,” as Reynolds said the meeting “was one of the great thrills of my life.”

Reynolds added, “And she gave a great note. My God, she watched it and, I’m not kidding, she was like, ‘You need to do this, this, and this at this moment.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t spot-on and right.”

Madonna previously directed the films Filth and Wisdom (2008) and W.E. (2011), with the latter winning her a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for ‘Masterpiece.’

“We literally went into a new recording session within 48 hours to do this one note,” said Levy. “She had only one note, but it was a great one, and it made the scene better.”

Levy explained that Madonna’s son “is a big Deadpool fan, and she mentioned that that definitely gave us an edge” in securing her song for the movie, which premieres on July 26.

The third installment in the Deadpool franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine reunites Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s iconic Marvel heroes after 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The team-up was teased in a meta post-credits scene from Deadpool 2 (2018).
