NetherRealm Studios’ game is also leaking, but this time it’s not the base game (which is long gone), but its add-on.
We’re still a few days away from San Diego Comic-Con, but the first story add-on for Mortal Kombat 1 has already hit the web (at least it’s not the trailer for the event, but we don’t want to spoil it because that might get leaked, too). Mortal Kombat 1 is a reboot, and it’s a sequel to Mortal Kombat 11, which was released in 2019. The story picks up where Liu Kang’s story ended in Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath add-on, where he created a new timeline with Chronika’s Hourglass. But this new timeline did not stop Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and their allies from threatening Earthrealm.
NetherRealm Studios has not yet confirmed that they will be making a story DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, players have come to expect this from Ed Boon and hope that the adventures of Liu Kang and his allies will continue. This was leaked by a Mortal Kombat 1 insider (and considering that he previously predicted a downsizing of NetherRealm’s mobile team, there may be some truth to what he’s saying). The DLC story would have five chapters and would star Cyrax, Sektor and Noob Saibot. The story mode in it will bring three additional maps, but a new unique execution (Fatality).
The Mortal Kombat 1 DLC will reportedly be released in September (for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Nintendo Switch) and will be confirmed by Warner during San Diego Comic-Con. According to leaks, certain game modes will not be available and may be canceled. For example, the tag team mode seen in previous installments may not be included in Mortal Kombat 1. Mileena is also said to “transform into something else,” but no further details have been leaked.
None of this is official yet, but it’s likely that NetherRealm won’t be making moves that are beneficial to everyone.
