PlayStation 5 Pro: Ten Good Reasons for a September Reveal!

According to one analyst, it would make perfect sense for Sony to unveil its half-generation console refresh, which has been one of the gaming industry’s open secrets in recent months (the other being the Nintendo Switch’s successor), in early fall.

William R. Angular has heard from reliable sources that Sony is planning a PlayStation Showcase for September, but he’s still 90% sure about the event. There are no less than ten reasons for this. Sony is required to tell shareholders in the current year what products it plans to sell in the next. This time last year we heard about Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Concord, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Helldivers 2. Only now we have no idea what’s coming in 2025!

This is tied to the PlayStation 5 Pro. If it’s announced too early, sales of the base model won’t be as good. Sony wants first-party, internally developed titles on the new PlayStation, so delaying the launch seems logical. This year is also the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation, as the PS1 was launched in Japan in late 1994, and although the company doesn’t care much about the past, it will celebrate it somehow.

According to the analyst, the PlayStation 5 is entering the second half of its lifecycle, and based on previous examples, Sony may be planning a big show to reveal more of its plans for the rest of the generation. As such, the September event could be a little different from what we’ve seen so far around PlayStation 5 (whether it’s called PlayStation Showcase or State of Play). Aguilar logically pointed out that the 2025 roadmap is completely unknown to us, and Sony is certainly up to something, and given that the company isn’t used to attending many other people’s events these days (except maybe Tokyo Game Show), it’s understandable if Sony wants to go big.

We’ll know all about it in time. Not much longer to wait.
