The game, developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Firewalk Studios, is trying to break away from other titles in the genre in several ways.
Concord will not have battle passes, and there are no plans to add them in the future, even with a paid option. This was announced by Firewalk on Twitter. There are no plans for anything like that because the studio hopes that if you play, level up your account and characters, and complete jobs (they call them challenges), it will all be satisfying. Sure, they plan to have regular updates and seasons after release (it’s a live service, a live service game, after all), but the studio is not going to charge extra for that. So we pay $/€40 for the game and that’s it.
Mark DeRidder, Concord’s director of gameplay animation, tweeted: “No Battle Pass, guys. You own Concord, Concord doesn’t own you.” The studio has even confirmed that there will be three in-game cinematic vignettes at launch to expand the world of Concord, with the rest coming weekly. You can already see some of these in the beta, and the cinematic trailer from June showed off a few things.

Whatever happens, Concord’s journey from beta to release will be relatively short, and judging by the Steam results, there wasn’t a huge amount of interest in the last beta. However, Concord has a similar approach to the others elsewhere, as there are these pre-purchase packs for the game to get extra skins, and of course the three days earlier play if you pay more business model comes into play here.
Concord will be released on August 23rd for PlayStation 5 and PC. (It’s also available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.) We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Xbox Series version suddenly pop up if the game doesn’t bring in the numbers we expect the first time around.
