MOVIE NEWS – The upcoming Peaky Blinders film has added its first major new cast member, as Mission: Impossible and Silo star Rebecca Ferguson joins Cillian Murphy in the Netflix production. This exciting news was first reported by Deadline, with details about Ferguson’s role remaining undisclosed for now.
Rebecca Ferguson is best known for her portrayal of the enigmatic Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible series. She first appeared in the Tom Cruise-led franchise in 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and has since become both a love interest and an equal to Cruise’s unstoppable secret agent Ethan Hunt. Ferguson reprised her role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, where her character was killed by Esai Morales’ villain, Gabriel.
Ferguson’s other notable works include Life, The Greatest Showman, Doctor Sleep, Dune, and Dune 2. Each of her performances has received critical acclaim, regardless of the films’ overall reception, and there is no doubt she will be a welcomed addition to the Peaky Blinders universe.
After much speculation, the Peaky Blinders movie, which will continue from the acclaimed BBC series, was officially confirmed last month. Plot details remain scarce, but creator Steven Knight teased a “war” involving the Peaky Blinders.
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Cillian Murphy Returns for the Peaky Blinders Movie
Following even more speculation, it has now been confirmed that the show’s lead actor and recent Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy will also return to reprise his role as gang leader Tommy Shelby. The actor released a statement, calling the movie “one for the fans.”
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. … It is very gratifying to be collaborating again with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This one is for the fans.”
Debuting in 2013, Peaky Blinders follows Cillian Murphy as Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby, the dangerous leader of the Peaky Blinders gang in Birmingham, 1919. The series concluded with its sixth season in 2022, showing Tommy riding off into the sunset while the world believes him to be dead. This seemingly conclusive ending led many to believe that Tommy’s story had come to an end, but evidently, this is not the case.
Plot details for the Peaky Blinders movie are still under wraps, but creator Steven Knight has revealed that the film will focus on a “new generation” of characters, including some from the last season.
“In series six, we’re introducing the new generation, and they will be part of what happens in the film. I think it’s about finding those actors that you watch and think, there’s the future.”
