“They’re going to be very, very happy.” Borderlands’ creator discusses the upcoming looter shooter’s next game, hinting that fans won’t have to wait long. “We’re not going to keep people waiting too long before we announce it,” says Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox.
Excited to return to Pandora? The wait won’t be much longer, especially with the upcoming Borderlands movie. Everything points to the announcement of the next installment in Gearbox’s looter shooter saga being imminent. Borderlands 4 will eventually come to fruition, even though there are no previews of the next game yet. However, recent comments from the series’ creator suggest news is coming sooner rather than later.
Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox and creator of the Borderlands series, shared some notable remarks with GamesRadar about Borderlands 4. “I haven’t been perfect at hiding the fact that we’re working on a lot of things, and we’re working on big things. I’m sure our fans will be very, very excited about the next video game project when we’re ready to announce it,” he said.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long for an announcement. “And I will tell you that we’re not going to make people wait too long before we announce it.” He even hinted that we might see something “before the end of the year.” All of this is possible thanks to his team. “I have the biggest and best team I’ve ever had working on what we know our fans want from us, so I’m very, very excited. I can’t wait to talk about it. I wish I could talk right now, because we have a lot to say,” said the head of Gearbox Software.
Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 could become a reality
Months ago, it was reported that Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 were in development, according to a mention on a developer’s LinkedIn profile. Pitchford even acknowledges his love for fantasy and the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands spin-off. “We did better with the first Wonderlands game than we did with the first Borderlands, so that’s something to learn from. I love fantasy. That’s why we did the original Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, because I love fantasy. Many of us at Gearbox love fantasy, and it gives us a place to play with it within the context of Borderlands’ themes and universe. I think it’s reasonable for our fans to expect more,” he said.
