Robert Downey Jr.: You Won’t Believe How “Iron Man” Returns to Marvel! [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – The Marvel SDCC panel unveiled a seismic shift for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sending ripples through its fanbase. Avengers 5 has been officially titled Avengers: Doomsday, but the biggest revelation wasn’t the new name. The real shocker was the announcement that Doctor Doom will join the MCU, portrayed by none other than Robert Downey Jr.

Yes, the actor known for Iron Man is making his comeback to the Marvel Universe, this time as one of its most notorious villains. As the Secret Wars film concludes the entire Multiverse Saga, one of its original stars will be there to witness it, but not as a hero.

The Next Two Avengers Films to Occur in Phase Six of the MCU

The Avengers films have been monumental for the MCU, with Avengers: Infinity War grossing an astronomical $2.048 billion worldwide, and Avengers: Endgame surpassing that with $2.799 billion. Despite any other developments in the MCU, audiences are evidently eager to see their favorite heroes together on the big screen.

Deadpool & Wolverine will feature numerous significant cameos from both past and present Marvel stars, but one original Avenger has returned for a special reason.

However, while the previous Avengers films starred Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, the Doomsday lineup remains a mystery. Marvel head Kevin Feige has indicated that not every hero will appear in the next sequel.

“I rarely speak in absolutes like that, right? The idea of never seeing someone again, we’ve got Tim Blake Nelson in a movie next year, right? So I never talk in absolutes like that. But the truth is, you know, we’re going to tell a story in these Avengers movies, and there won’t be room for 100,000 characters in it. So choices will have to be made, that’s for sure. But that doesn’t mean you won’t ever see anybody ever again.”

Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Phase Five is still ongoing, with Deadpool & Wolverine currently in theaters.
