MOVIE NEWS – On September 19, Max and HBO will premiere the new Batman spinoff series, The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
The trailer, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, is now available with Hungarian subtitles and offers a glimpse into the eight-episode series. The show centers on Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. The story picks up directly after the events of the 2022 Batman film, with Gotham City underwater and Oz vying for power.
The series continues the grand crime saga of Batman, initiated by director Matt Reeves with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster, The Batman. It follows Penguin’s attempt to seize control of Gotham’s criminal underworld.
The cast includes Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O’Connell as Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, and Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone. The trailers suggest that Oz’s biggest adversary will be Sofia Falcone, who also seeks power.
The executive producers of The Penguin are Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc (writer and showrunner), Craig Zobel (director of the first three episodes), and Bill Carraro. The series is based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It is produced by Reeves’s 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The goal of The Penguin is to showcase Oz’s brutal and bloody path to power in Gotham’s underworld. The series promises a dark and complex narrative, similar to the Batman films. Reeves and Clark aim to tell a standalone story that enriches the Batman universe. The series will feature numerous violent and tense scenes that faithfully depict the dark world of Gotham.
