MOVIE NEWS – The animated series produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, set to debut in December, will be the first title to launch the new DC Universe envisioned by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The seven-episode animated series will premiere on Max in December.
Creature Commandos follows the adventures of a secret team of imprisoned monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they are the last, worst option.
The original voice cast includes Steve Agee (Economos), Maria Bakalova (Princess Ilana), Anya Chalotra (Circe), Zoe Chao (Nina Mazursky), Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), Sean Gunn (GI Robot & Weasel), David Harbour (Frankenstein), Alan Tudyk (Dr. Phosphorus), Indira Varma (The Bride), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).
Creature Commandos is written and produced by James Gunn. Based on DC characters, it is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation; additional executive producers include Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register, with Rick Morales serving as supervising producer.
James Gunn, co-chair of DC Studios, stated that the series plays a crucial role in introducing the new DCU, with characters consistently appearing across different media. The series is described as dark, humorous but never goofy, with political and adult themes. According to Gunn, the series reflects influences from classic monster films, the manga series Golgo 13, and 1960s war movies.
The series presents a modern version of the team, assembled by Amanda Waller after the events of the first season of Peacemaker. It offers a “macabre twist” on action ensembles like The Dirty Dozen and The A-Team.
